That's right, kiddies! The wait is over, the gloves are off, and it's time for you to meet NAIAD DAIAD!

NAIAD DAIAD are North America's newest and greatest psychedelic electronic supergroup. Consisting of Brandon Maynard (Aquarium/The Malah, Greenville SC) and Cooper Howland (OpenSourceCode, NYC) NAIAD DAIAD adamantly refuse to recognise genre restrictions, rules, or recommendations about what music is supposed to sound like. Instead, we produce eclectic, freewheeling, effortlessly funky, outrageously danceable music. Equally suited to the chillout or the main stage, morning, noon or night, NAIAD DAIAD has been under construction for over a year, and is finally ready for your consumption! We truly hope that you are as hungry for some brand-new, all-orignal, wildly inventive music as we are to give it to you! The live show consists of two laptops, a guitar with MIDI pickups, microphones, electronic and organic percussion, hardware synthesizers and whatever else we can manage to drag out to the venue! We re-dub, re-mix, and improvise in real-time to create an immersive and involving live experience that's impossible to ignore and damn hard not to dance to.

Check us out at www.myspace.com/naiaddaiad, and if you like what you hear, PM us for a link to a FREE 45-minute live promo set!

We are now accepting gigs in New York City, the Southeastern US and festivals worldwide. Contact us at naiaddaiad@gmail.com.
See you on the dancefloor!

The filmmaker Andrea Sadler, joined this run, with camera in hand, to present a remarkable physical and spiritual journey of a diverse group of all ages who carried the simple message, that All Life is Sacred. A stunning visual portrait of individuals committed to promoting peace, encouraging respect for the earth and all life, and to sharing the rich cultural diversity of the human race.

“I hear everywhere, sure, I want peace, but how? The Sacred Run, the lotus and the feather, provides a map, a marvelous map indeed! Take your passion for peace, sprinkle it with your interests and culture in a way that seduces others around the world to join in and embrace the love of all people, everywhere. Spread the word!” Patch Adams , MD , Founder of The Gesundheit Institute, Arlington , VA

“The Sacred Run, the lotus and the feather” is one of the most inspiring, powerful awesome depictions of a sacred journey of hope, love and beauty. It reminded me of the hope and beauty and gift that it is to be alive at such a time as this.” Pamela Rickenbach, www.dreamkeepers.net

I’m producing a half-hour radio documentary that in part seeks to explore how the Internet is changing the ways we fall in love. I’m searching for individuals who met online—whether through a dating site or through Tribe, MySpace, Facebook, etc.—and fell or began to fall in love through online correspondence and/or chatting before meeting in person. I’m interested in interviewing individuals and couples from both current and past relationships that started online. Burners are so active online, seemed a good place to look.

I will need to record the conversation, as the project is for radio. My intention is to pitch the documentary in whole or in part to national and local NPR programs, and I have received initial interest from several venues.
Gallery Manager: Gizem Bacaz
Email: manager@microcosmgallery.com
ph: 212-591-8841

"Net of Being"
New works by Alex Grey
November 10 – December 31
Opening - November 10, 2007 6 - 9pm

On exhibit at MicroCoSM Gallery are Grey's major new paintings including “Holy Family,” and "Net of Being," a fifteen-foot long oil painting introduced to millions by the rock band TOOL. After years of labor, this epic work is on view along with drawings that led to its creation. Related to Grey's series of painted and sculpted "universal beings," begun in 1999, the "Net of Being" portrays an endless perspective of column-like four-faced Godheads. Each head is composed of a fiery grid of eyes and galaxies linked with similar heads in an endless mesh, implying a realm of boundless interconnectedness. A new topology of Being and infinite awareness is mapped by this omni-directional web. Grey states that this visionary realm was visited during an entheogenic (psychedelic) ayahuasca journey he ex-
perienced in 2002. Small sculptural details of the Net of Being are also on view. “Net of Being” was featured on the cover of TOOL’s recent “10,000 Days” album, and the CD package won a 2007 Grammy Award.

Also on exhibit are models of the future Chapel of Sacred Mirrors, architecture designed by Alex Grey. The
entryway pavilion on the ground level is a wheel of 12 Godhead columns similar to those portrayed in the
painting "Net of Being." In the space between the heads nestle smaller replicas of the large domed Chapel.
Smaller Godheads and Chapel shapes repeat fractally, reaching tiny proportions that harmonically relate
to the overall pattern of the building. From every point of view on the grounds of this domed circular struc-
ture, observers witness two profiles mirroring each other, created by the outline of the building and implying
two giant celestial faces. The message encoded in the building is, “When beings come together in Oneness,
they create sacred space.”

The Chapel of Sacred Mirrors, being designed to house a permanent collection of
Grey's paintings and sculpture, is itself a profoundly inspiring sculpture for a timeless body of artwork.
Best known for his paintings which “X-ray” multiple dimensions of reality, Alex Grey's visual meditations
on the nature of life and consciousness, have led to a world renowned career of exhibitions from the New Mu-
seum in NYC, to Tokyo, to Sao Paulo, a retrospective at Museum of Contemporary Arts San Diego, features
on Discovery Channel, Newsweek, Time, and album art for multi-platinum and Grammy award winning rock
bands such as Tool, Beastie Boys, and Nirvana. Because of his underground cult status in the psychedelic
world, his artwork is some of the most reproduced on sheets of blotter acid.

Alex Grey's art illuminates worlds of subtle energy and proposes new icons of trans-denominational spirituality. Along with his wife,
artist Allyson Grey, Alex co-founded the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors, CoSM, located in Chelsea, open for three
years, as a testing ground for the alliance of divinity, creativity, and community.

She also featured Sub Swara's own Dhruva and Sharmaji in an epic soundclash vs. Skull Disco (Shackleton and Appleblim) on her show in 07. (www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/maryannehobbs/)

Speaking of which, Sharmaji (now an official Sub Swara resident -- much respect to Badman DS!) and Dhruva will be teaming up again for a tag team dub session in honor of MaryAnne's presence. A heap of original dubs ready to drop...

Plus, the Sub Swara live set will be in full force, comin' correct with a preview of the Sub Swara album (droppin' early 2008) and the sonics that span the spectrum of bass bin culture.

Like we said, LARGE!! See you up in the dance.
Calling all drummers…. come and join us on Thursdays and be in the
Dance Parade on May 19th

This is a Brazilian Style drumming group that has played together for more than 5 years and has decided to take the magic that happens every week and introduce it to the general public. Batucada is a verb meaning drumming and is a Brazilian term for drum circle which is usually "Samba or Samba Reggae". We however do some other rhythms like Condombe' which is Uruguayan and Guaguanco which is Cuban, but it all comes back to Africa when you talk about drumming. We do also blend these rhythms with other instruments like electric guitar which gives the drumming a more song like structure and becomes what I can only describe as a "Funky Santana" Feel. We are also participating in the Dance Parade (We'll be providing the beat to move your feet) and will hopefully attract some more drummers to join us when we hit the streets. ReBoot is a newish Vegetarian restaurant which is related to Two Boots and has great vibe. They have lots of vegan and live things on the menu as well as offering the amazing pizza which does have some meat.

I have a bunch of friends going, but I had this idea that I might want to camp with a bunch of (or a few) total strangers! (Or even folks I only kinda know from around the scene but dont really "know") It would be a great way to immediately make new connections and spread the love. I could also camp alone to me more autonomous, but as a first-timer I thought it wise to be with a few folks with some experience.

Even if I do end up camping alone, I'm also looking for a ride there (and back) from NYC (or Brooklyn). What better way to turn Burner strangers into new Burner friends than a road trip!

when body temple was begining, mark asked me if i would be willing to come to nyc to rehearse and prep for BT. while i could not make it weekly, he did inspire me to come up monthly (Full Moons @ CoSM). so in many ways, i have mark to thank for getting me to think outside of the box.

while i post announcements to the events page, i wanted to reach out a bit more to you all, as friend.... co-creating circles where we share in the collaborative artistc process is what i am all about, and i am guessing there are many kindred sisters and brothers in this tribbe. i currently live outside of DC and contribute to the acoustic drum and dance scene here. as far as NY i have been instigating the Full Moon D&D for nearly 3 years, and now a second drum and dance event at CoSM called SoulFire.

Happy New Year to the whole Sub Swara community!

We are well pleased to be back home in NYC after a highly auspicious sonic incursion into LA over NYE. Big Ups to The Space Island Crew and to Shamal and family for being such hospitable hosts to us. (Dhruva apologizes for setting that sub-woofer on fire at SI. it's a problem he has. we are working onnit....) For all you west coasters: Look for Sub Swara to be back out west this spring and summer shredding up a camp-out near you. LA knows what's up.

Sub Swara 015:

Back at home we are kicking off 2007 with a storm as comrade and musical legend, State of Bengal, returns to New York and the Sub Swara stage with a blazing live set at Element on Fri. Feb 2nd.. This will be the global CD release party for Skip-ij, the highly anticipated new album from SOB. Available everywhere Feb 7th.

SOB has been has been a mentor to us and has shown consistent support for Sub Swara since our inception; performing at our very first event at Capitale in 2005, and joining us for a flurry of shows last summer through the pacific northwest.

Sam first burst onto the global scene as a key DJ and genre-defining producer, instrumental to the success of London's infamous club night ‘Anokha’. He went from there to record several seminal forward-looking LP's, and to record and tour alongside fellow musical titans Bjork, Massive Attack, and the late classical fusion sitarist Ananda Shankar, amongst many others. His eruptive tracks ‘Flight IC408’ and ‘Chittagong Chill’, featured on Talvin Singh's Anokha compilation have taken their place in history and remain anthems.

Sub Swara is very proud to host the official global release party for State Of Bengal's new album SKIP-IJ. The SKIP-IJ sound is built around thunderous rhythms, wide organic bass lines, and premier vocalists from around the globe. The album's official release is on February 7 but come hear it in full effect with us on Feb.2! SOB will joined by very special guests, vocalist Rosina Kazi and MC, Nexmanz . Exclusive advance copies of SKIP-IJ will be available. With the release of SKIP-IJ SOB has once again suceded in redefining the sonic landscape.

Check out a sneak peak audio sampler of the album here: www.dhamaalsf.com/dhruvanyc/SKIP-IJ.mp3

The Sub Swara crew will of course be reppin' proper with Dhruva, Sunder, Haj, MC Juakali, and Visualists Pictureman and Skip Intro bringing the DJ-tabla-ragga vocal-visual mixology to the forefront. We return to Element, NY's premiere venue for cutting edge music, featuring one of the most bumpin' soundsystems in North America.

Half price $10 tickets are now on sale at Brown Paper Tickets (www.brownpapertickets.com/event/9740) and will be available at that price until noon mid-day on Feb. 2nd.

SUB SWARA vs. GLITCH MOB

In the home corner -- The Sub Swara posse weighs in with the hard-hitting trio of Dhruva, Sunder, and Haj, heavy-weight MC Juakali and Pictureman/Skip Intro on visual attack. 'International Bass Fueled Beats and Breaks', with live tablas, turntablism, Ragga vocals, and deep visual mixology. A barrage of genre defying sonics spanning crushing breaks, chubby dubstep, nasty grime, mid-tempo glitch, digi-dancehall, and much more big speaker biz.

In the visitor’s corner – The Glitch Mob comes out swinging, as individual superstars edIT, Kraddy, and Boretta join forces, and freestyle maestro Souleye enters the fracas with his lyrical jujitsu. These boys have been straight tearing up the west coast underground circuit with their crunked-out glitch-injected hip-hop, massiv dancehall riddims, & lush IDM. After running things at Burning Man this summer the Glitch Mob is poised and primed to make their very live and highly anticipated NYC debut.
Keep it locked. We will be back in NYC with thunder in '07 as we resume First Fridays at Element with another massive line-up on Feb. 2nd.

We'll also have a beautiful full gallery/dance floor space displaying the work of Ken Kesey, Alex Grey, Mob House, the Blotterati, Sequoia Emanuelle and Mikio. Beats will be dropping all the time when we're not sleeping and we will have some special Freek Factory family guests rolling through to join us.

We're always proud to reprazent here because it's New York's best and longest running hemp & medical marijuana activist festival and political rally and not just a party (but it's one HELL of a party :-))

http://www.damnsam.com/

Our stages will be solar and wind-powered this year by Ecological Systems. In the spirit of hemp for energy, we're going directly to the source and supporting solar and other natural energy.

Three days of talent on the big stage are looking dynamic, diverse and dope:

and MANY others: http://www.damnsam.com/entertainment.html

The venue is beyond amazing:

Camp Minglewood is located on a private lake in the
western Catskill mountains of New York State near the
Delaware river and the Pennsylvania Border. The camp
is just 120 miles from New York City, between
Monticello and Binghamton.

Complete with theaters, pavillions, dining hall, huge
lake, car camping, cabins and mini bunk house rentals,
RV parking, beautiful grounds, private and friendly,
this venue is very special!

The location of Harvest Fest could not be more ideal! The site is used in the summer as a performing arts camp. Camp Minglewood offers accomodations usually not offered at an outdoor music festival.

The main stages will be located in a large, open-sided circus arena.
Our late-night entertainment will consist of a late-night DJ/art gallery theater, as well as a late-night band theater. Vernville and the Yelo Sub will host the Earth Stage Saturday and Sunday, and show movies both evenings in the campground. All stages are in covered structures with tiered seating and PLENTY of room to dance, so all music will take place rain or shine.

Leaf peaking season and freek peaking season coincide in the beautiful Catskills this year. :-)

Please bring canned and non-perishable food to our food drive! Everything collected will be donated to a local food pantry. Other good items to donate are diapers, baby formula, bottles etc. Together we can show the local community that we care. Strangers Helping Strangers is a repeat offender at Harvest Fest now!

Big love to activist promoters Rob Robinson & Jen Rog of Damn Sam for allowing us to be part of this amazing hempcentric throw-down once again.

Rob was a major force in helping Shady and the Pranksters put on the 40th anniversary "AT40" in Vegas last Halloween and one of our strongest partners in connecting the burner, activist and live music worlds.

FREEKS IN THE MOUNTAINS!!!! yeeeeeeeeeeee-Hahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!
peyote visions - straight from the vaults of heaven

"I mean, when was the last time you saw a western that ended in a shamanic peyote battle instead of a gun fight? " (from tripzine review -renegade)

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5822131905424089755&q=peyote

you should rent the movie to understand whats going on but i will tell you roughly what the shaman says:

before clip:mike comes in to kill his enemy but only to find him deep in a psychedelic trance; the shaman tells him he is already gone and he won't resolve anything by simply shooting his body- he must go to where he is the shaman Runi says he will take him there.

clip begins: shaman tells him he has brought mike to the place where he can confront his enemy and now he will leave them alone.

at end of clip when shaman's animal spirit returns mike to his body he says - "remain in your body." and placing his hand the girl's shoulder he says "everything is alright"

important things to notice and keep in mind while watching: some brief commentary ( if you want more just e-mail me).

1. the symbolism: mikes kindred snake spirit and imagery, his apponents distorted corrupt soul represented by spiders, centipedes, poisonous and devouring insects.

2. notice how the shaman is able to influence the hyperspacial reality and the pure beautiful imagery he creates (this hyper dimensional reality is a shared experience).

3. at some point in the movie(not this clip)the shaman tells mike. " now that you know the true nature of your thoughts and emotions be careful of them."

------------------------------------------------------------------------

also, check out my commentary on A H Almas:

yes well written, its all been said before but... rather anachronistic.
there is no god seperate... there is no devil these are conceptualizations of the mind - the abyss of choronzon.

we invent, create the points

when realizing essence "reality" unfolds from the dynamism of being

the subluminal/luminal drive is activated through non-dual pressence freeing the assemblage point of the diamond vehicle - the point of existence

this is a wonderful trip but when journeying its nice to have something chewy in the center of the souflle...

thats where duality enters in.... ie duality rocks too! nature is true too! nature is god, the ego is nothing to be ashamed of... its not the 'devil' ... it becomes distorted through repression and lack of understanding... ones ego can become the ego of a hungry ghost or it can become the ego of a saint - it starts off as the uncarved block.

its fun to poke around on a new planet with picks and shovels and build computers... try new delicacies... this is where the egoic mind can be your best friend or worst enemy - you need the link with your higherself across the abyss.

one needs to befriend the ego and the ego needs to trust in diamond guidance; then when the bottom drops out the ego becomes one with the purer aspects of being beyond falsehood, madness, and glamour... the soul sings the body electric. These three mask the three pure aspects of the soul... Truth without any issues, (without acepting or rejecting); the Ispiration of the soul in ecstacy; and the direct connect/link with the divine.

it is like the finger that points to the moon.... don't look at the finger or you'll miss all the heavenly glory.

god and you are one .... if you can't see god in everything, you can't see god at all... the universe is creating itself.

(i don't think you want to read this pedantic indulgent mess....)

but here it is....

Man is asleep. Little do we know what this means, the extent of this sleep. Little do we know what it means to be really awake, to be ripened, completed, a whole person. Sometimes, when a drop of grace kindles my heart, my first feeling is to cry, with a burning heart for how asleep I am, how blind I can be, without even knowing it. I feel so sad then, so sorry for how far I go from God, how estranged I can be from my true nature. My deep love for Truth, for the precious gold of Reality, melts my heart into warm running tears when I remember how hard it is to remember. The realization that when I am asleep I donât even know how far I am from God makes my heart burn with more fire. It is so easy to forget. And it is such a sad affair, for what I forget is my own true nature, the precious wine of my innermost soul. No wonder the Sufi makes it his first and foremost duty to remember God, day and night. Godâs name is always on his tongue, constantly within his heart.

It is so easy to forget who I am because identifying with my ego patterns is such a smooth and automatic process. Itâs like gravity, always there to pull me down. Even when I am keenly aware of my process, there always comes a time when a subtle game takes over, and without realizing it I am cut off from the origin, estranged from the source of Being.

Identification always comes with blindness. They go together. When I identify with a particular reaction or a pattern of mine I am really saying that I am this reaction or this pattern, without being aware that I am saying so. The blindness can go so far that I feel self-righteous about this particular identification. And this really means that I am asserting the existence of the devil, and negating what is real. I blind myself from seeing this by rationalization or pretension. Essentially it is self-deception. So I find myself running after gratification of my games with complete justification and self-righteousness, of course.

Forgetting God, the one Reality, always means siding with the devil, the delusion we call ego. Itâs so painful, itâs so shameful, that sometimes I actually say to the devil, âYes, I believe you.â I turn my back on God, on Reality, on the source of life, believing that the devil, my ignorant ego, will give me the satisfaction and contentment I desire. Time and time again, with a lot of pain and sorrow, I find that I only end up in more frustration, more suffering, and more alienation.

It is in the nature of ego striving and the desire for gratification that the heart is upset. There can be no peace with craving and grasping. This craving is a certain energy, a certain state that is by its very nature harsh, hard, excited, and violent. It is the seed and source of all negative emotions. It is felt and experienced as violence within the heart. It feels like sand grating against the pure smoothness and softness of the heart. It is no wonder greed, craving and desire for gratification produce wars and violence, for it is actually the energy of war within our hearts, inside our own bodies.

Still, rare is the individual who will even listen to such a fundamental truth, let alone do anything about it. Itâs as if our very nature does not want us to see this truth or to admit to its validity and significance. Of course not, the devil does not want to see its deception, ego does not want to die. NO. It will fight fiercely with all weapons possible, more weapons than we can even conceive of, to avoid the truth, to conceal it, to reject it. The devil will not see itself as the devil. It has to point to something else as the cause of trouble. And it will continue opening its hungry mouth, screaming, âGive me, fill me, satisfy me.â But of course, this is another illusion; it will never be filled, it can never be satisfied. For its hunger is bottomless, its emptiness has no limits. It is always the temptation of satisfaction, but never total satisfaction.

The Buddhists found an apt image for this state of ego. They call it the hungry ghost. It is a being with a huge stomach and a tiny mouth, like the hole of a needle. It can never get enough through the small hole to fill the huge stomach. This is the usual state of ego, whether we are conscious of it or not.

The core of ego is a feeling of deficiency, of poverty, of emptiness, of saying: âI am no good, I am worthless, I am empty. Give me, give me, more, more, more, more.â In this state of deficiency I donât love myself, I donât accept myself. I reject myself. I want to run away, distract myself; maybe go to a movie, see a friend, have sex, eat, fill myself with knowledge, or pretend I am O.K. I am always wanting to fill this emptiness, always rejecting it, always afraid of it. In fact, we are all terrified by it. Most of the time people donât know that this emptiness, this deficiency is what is driving most of their actions. Itâs such a desperation, such a race to fill this bottomless pit.

But how sweet it is to say âyesâ to this emptiness. How courageous it is to say: âI feel empty, I feel deficient, and I wonât attempt to fill it. I want to see the truth. I want to experience the reality of me. I refuse to manipulate. I want to wake up regardless of how painful it is.â Only the hero will take this attitude, for it is a heroic act to see your deficiency, your neediness, your emptiness, and yet not try to manipulate your life to fill it. We are so compulsive, so driven to manipulate, to avoid feeling this basic deficiency of our personal ego. But believe me, my friend, thereâs no other way towards fullness. God will not pour His grace if you donât accept your deficiency and stop manipulating. Manipulation, striving to fill this emptiness, is only the devil doing its efficient work. It is constantly working to hide its weakness.

My teacher gave me the task to accept my emptiness. It was at such a difficult time. I had just fallen in love with a beautiful friend of mine. I loved my teacher too. It was the first time in my adult years that my heart actually opened to a woman and a man, in a very deep and intense way. I was very much in touch with my feelings, needs, fantasies. It was a time
